FRZylan ne chantera plus est un format plutôt rare dans le répertoire lyrique : un monodrame contemporain sur le thème de l’homophobie. La compositrice Diana Soh (The Carmen Case, 23 • 24) y aborde une réalité brûlante. Yann Verburgh, auteur du livret, raconte l'histoire inspirée de faits réels du jeune chanteur homosexuel Zylan. Malgré sa notoriété, il est persécuté, torturé et tué – parce qu'il vit dans un pays où l'homosexualité est punie par la loi. Comme dans la tragédie classique, le personnage sacrifié et son monde intérieur sont au centre de l'attention. Le ténor Benoît Rameau incarne à la fois Zylan et les voix de ceux qu’il rencontre au cours de ses jours. Il est accompagné par des percussions, une guitare électrique et un violoncelle. Une pièce de théâtre musical touchante qui propose une plongée profonde dans les pensées d’un corps opprimé.
EN Based on a true story, Diana Soh’s monodrama traces the final hours of a young singer whose public success cannot protect him from persecution, torture and murder in a country where homosexuality remains criminalised. Yann Verburgh’s libretto shuttles between personal memory and brutal interrogation. Speech and song are closely entwined, carried by one performer – tenor Benoît Rameau – embodying multiple voices and a compact instrumental trio of electric guitar, cello, and percussion. Brief, direct, and especially written for adolescent audiences, the piece favours intimacy over spectacle. Following The Carmen Case at the Grand Théâtre in 2024, it confirms Soh’s commitment to opera as a forum for urgent current topics.
