Description
This hike can easily be combined with a visit to the herbal tea manufactory Téi vum Séi. Téi vum Séi stands for high-quality teas and herbs from the Upper-Sûre Nature Park. The products are made from aromatic and medicinal plants, most of which are cultivated by members of the cooperative or wild-harvested in the region – naturally without chemical fertilisers or pesticides. In the manufactory in Schleif, the plants are carefully dried and processed in order to preserve their natural aromas, colours, and active ingredients.
The relatively flat Auto-Pédestre Winseler leaves the village heading towards Grümmelscheid, along the Wiltz River and through the forest. The hiking trail now winds through the Wiltz Valley to the hamlet of Schleif.
Although only about ten inhabitants live in this place, it has fundamental significance in regional history. During the construction of the railway line between Wiltz and Bastogne, building materials were stored in Schleif. Furthermore, excavation work for a tunnel to the Belgian Benonchamps started there. By the way: Schleif owes its name to the Middle High German „Slîfe“, which means „grinding mill“. There is also a place to rest in Schleif.
After this well-deserved break, the route returns to Winseler. The hiking trail follows the cycle path laid on the former railway track between Kautenbach and Bastogne.
