With the CeCiL's Box, the Cercle Cité supports local creation by presenting and promoting the work of emerging and young artists from the Greater Region in one of its shop windows in the Rue du Curé. This mini exhibition space, visible 7 days a week, day and night, offers a street-side location in the heart of the city to a series of original and ephemeral interventions from the plastic and applied arts, with the aim of arousing the curiosity of passers-by and questioning the collective imagination.
The 40th intervention is entrusted to the artist Sarah Schleich and is entitled breathe.
The work breathe was developed for the display window of CeCiL’s Box within the urban context of Luxembourg. In the window, a word—breathe—floats, sewn and padded in linen and cotton. The interior of the space is entirely covered with mirrors and filled with shimmering strips.

The materials respond sensitively to light and movement. Depending on the time of day, the position of the sun, and the viewing angle, shifting reflections and layered colours emerge. The strips diffract light into shimmering spectra, creating a visual environment in constant transformation.

A threshold zone forms between the public space and the interior. Passers-by perceive not only the installation, but also fragments of their own reflections, the street, and moving light.
In contrast to the speed of everyday urban life, the work introduces a simple word: breathe. It is not an instruction in the strict sense, but rather a proposition—a brief interruption in the rhythm of the city.
Breathing, usually unconscious and continuous, here becomes a possible starting point for perception. A short pause—perhaps for a single breath—can draw attention to elements often overlooked: the smells in the warm summer air, the sounds of the street, the shifting light, or the sensation of the body in the present moment.
breathe thus shifts the focus from the object to the viewer’s experience. The installation acts less as an image than as an invitation: a brief space of attention within the movement of the city.
