The feeling of passing through a border crossing…Paintings and a border soundtrack from another era, when checkpoints and borders seemed to be gradually disappearing. An associative journey in 22 stations.
The project was created during a period of open borders between Germany and its neighbouring countries, made possible by the Schengen Agreement and the abolition of passport controls. And today, borders are once again being monitored and reactivated?
The art project “To/ after/ beyond the border” reflects on the once-optimistic vision of an increasingly open world, while at the same time questioning history itself.
At the Schengen Museum, “To/ after/ beyond the border” .is presented in an extraordinary setting: the exhibition takes place aboard the Prinzessin Marie-Astrid Europa, the historic ship where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985.
