Editorial / Introduction
With the exhibition 3500 cm²., Luxembourgish artist Massimo Beni devotes a new series of paintings to a single format: 50 × 70 cm—or exactly 3,500 cm². Presented at Galerie Subtile in Luxembourg from November 14, 2026, to January 3, 2027, this unpublished series invites viewers on an intimate and rigorous journey into a mental theater where geometry, memory, and allegory intersect. 3,500 cm²: a constraint that opens up new horizons.
By imposing this 3,500 cm² surface area upon himself, Massimo Beni transforms a formal constraint into a space of freedom and exploration.
In these highly precise compositions, human figures are fragmented, architectures become imaginary, and geometric forms take on layers of meaning. Targets, checkerboards, rockets, chimneys, and stylized trees form a recurring symbolic vocabulary.
Color plays an essential, omnipresent role. Bright flat tones and vivid contrasts immediately catch the eye before revealing more complex narratives that weave together personal memories and universal concerns.

Massimo Beni: A Journey Between Structure and Emotion
Born in 1971 in Differdange to a family of Italian origin, Massimo Beni lives and works in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Coming from a technical and industrial background, he has been developing an artistic practice since the 1990s in which drawing, construction, and geometric precision hold a central place. His personal journey—marked by memory and emotional reconstruction—fuels a body of work that is both structured and profoundly human.
A fixture on the Luxembourg art scene since 1994, his notable exhibitions include the Galerie du Théâtre in Esch-sur-Alzette in 2022 as part of Esch2022, European Capital of Culture, followed by a solo show at Subtile in 2024.
In 2025, he designed the four artistic trophies presented to the winners of the sixth edition of the Diversity Awards organized by IMS Luxembourg.
His work will also be featured at the Affordable Art Fair Brussels in February 2027, continuing to expand his reach beyond Luxembourg.
