La somme de mon seum is built around a single sustained image: a traditional kettle coming to the boil. Shot on analogue film, the work unfolds through accumulation rather than rupture—a gradual, patient overheating through which anger becomes legible.
A text in four parts documents encounters with racism at sixteen, twenty-one, twenty-six, and thirty-one. Each episode attends not to the incident itself but to its aftermath: the process by which the body registers what has not yet been consciously named. Smoke drifts through the frame and past its edges, resisting containment.
Mehdi Zion's practice engages analogue and non-chemical film processes, working with light, time, and the inherent properties of materials. La somme de mon seum. extends this approach into the political and affective register—tracing what accumulates, what builds under pressure, and what eventually enters the surrounding air.
