Diekirch, situated on the borders of the river "Sûre" and surrounded by picturesque heights such as "Haardt", "Goldknapp", "Seitert" and "Herrenberg", is one of these small towns that satisfies the tourist who has an eye for the "couleur locale" (local color).
The pedestrian zone with shops, cafés, old streets and small passages and a big open terrace square in the midst of the center invite you in the summer to the numerous public concerts and all kinds of entertainment around a good and genuine glass of "Diekirch Beer"!
If you are an adept of history, it is in the old quarter that you will discover within the setting of old time houses, the jewel of the town, the old St. Laurentius Church. Classified as an historical monument, the church was erected on the remains of an important Roman villa. A roman mosaic found in the same location is exposed in the Musée d'Histoire(s) Diekirch - Mh[s]d.
Quite another museum which is worth a detour is the National Museum of Military History that brings back to memory the most significant events of the Battle of the Bulge 1944-1945 with the support of supersized dioramas.
The National Museum of Historical Vehicles is unique in Luxembourg for its fabulous exhibits as well as for the early 20th century style "Art Nouveau" of the building itself. The beer museum is also enclosed here.
If you are a lover of nature, Diekirch offers you a great variety of possibilities to relax. Kayaking down the river, fishing or running around on a bicycle or by foot on well marked hiking trail will make you discover the beautiful nature.
Last but not least Diekirch does not ignore youngsters, various sites are reserved for modern games, open air events in respect of handicrafts and similar activities are organized in the pedestrian zone and on the campsites.
