Description
Vianden is of course very famous for its castle. However, the place also has other treasures that are highlighted during the Auto-Pédestre route.
The Auto-Pédestre Vianden starts at the parking lot at the entrance to the medieval town. It goes uphill to the well-known castle. Construction of the castle began in the 5th century, with the main part built between the 11th and 14th centuries. Overall, 9 architectural eras are recognizable. Since 1977, it has been state-owned.
It continues slightly uphill to the customs stack. Now you head towards the chairlift, which is unique nationwide. From the mountain station, you enjoy a wonderful view over the town and the valley. Those who want to shorten their route can also do so here.
The hiking trail then leads almost to the Bildchen Chapel, a beautiful viewpoint over the lower basin of the pumped storage plant. Water is stored here to generate electrical energy.
The path leads back to the bank of the Our and shortly thereafter to the end of the route.
