When technique sets art freeBehind the explosion of light of the Impressionists and the modern impulses of the 1920s lies a technological shift: the invention of the collapsible paint tube. In dialogue with the two current exhibitions, this talk offers a journey into the material itself. Through a close examination of Berthe Brincour's paint box, we will see how abandoning the grinding of pigments in the studio broke down the technical barriers to creation.
