.Inspiration strikes when we least expect it and Gustav Mahler had his light bulb moment for Symphony N˚ 7. whilst rowing across a lake in southern Austria. The rise and fall of the oars gave him the initial idea and he later described the first movement as «a tragic night without stars or moonlight». The concept of «Nachtmusik» – music to be played at night – reappears throughout the symphony, so wrap up warm for this nocturnal odyssey with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, under the guiding hand of Finnish phenomenon Klaus Mäkelä.
