An immersive storytelling tour to rediscover the Luxembourgish card game Mönch and help preserve an endangered intangible cultural heritage.

The Luxembourgish card game ‘Mönch’ is a form of intangible cultural heritage that is now under threat. As it is played less and less, it is being affected by changing lifestyles and the gradual disappearance of traditional social venues, such as cafés and bistros, where these practices were once firmly established. This decline reflects the fragility of cultural traditions – often local in nature – which are linked to cultural exchanges and regional variations passed down over time. Against this backdrop, it is essential to revive, preserve and reinvent this heritage. The proposed project takes the form of a guided storytelling tour of the playing card exhibition at the Kulturhuef Museum. Led by a guide portraying Jean Dieudonné, a playing-card manufacturer, this immersive experience plunges visitors into the history and craftsmanship associated with this world. By breathing new life into these practices through a lively and accessible presentation, the project aims to raise public awareness and encourage the passing on of the game ‘Mönch’ to future generations.
