Historical Walk – The Battle of the Ardennes
Dive into history with our “Battle of the Ardennes in Clervaux” guided tour, an immersive experience exploring one of the most significant episodes of World War II in Luxembourg.
Starting from the GI monument, just steps from the majestic Clervaux Castle, your guide will transport you to the autumn of 1944: after the liberation of the Grand Duchy by American troops, a brief period of calm sets in… before the shadow of the German counter-offensive falls on the region.
During the walk, you will discover:
- The situation on the Western Front after September 1944
- Daily life of GIs and Luxembourgers during this brief “period of peace”
- The secret preparation of the German attack and the offensive of 16 December 1944
- The heroic fight of the 28th US Infantry Division at Clervaux and its crucial role in subsequent events
- The return of the Gestapo and the impact of the battle on the local population
- The clashes in the heart of Clervaux, the defense of the castle, and the notable history of the Sherman tank
