FR Deux chorégraphes emblématiques du continent africain, la Franco-Béninoise Germaine Acogny, icône de la danse contemporaine, et le Sud-Africain Gregory Maqoma, se sont retrouvés pour célébrer dans un puissant spectacle en deux parties la mémoire, l’interconnexion et la dignité à travers la danse. Dans Joséphine, Germaine Acogny rend un vibrant hommage à la chanteuse, danseuse et militante Josephine Baker en convoquant un dialogue électrisant entre deux femmes qui interrogent le regard colonial, la résistance et la réinvention de soi. Gregory Maqoma répond à cette première partie par sa pièce Bantu – dont la racine signifie « être humain » –, en réunissant des danseur•se•s de l’École des Sables sénégalaise et de sa propre compagnie le Vuyani Dance Theatre autour d’une transposition chorégraphique du corps comme archive et du mouvement comme témoignage.
DE Dieses Doppelprogramm vereint zwei wichtige Stimmen des zeitgenössischen afrikanischen Tanzes zu einer kraftvollen Auseinandersetzung mit Erinnerung, Widerstand und Zukunft. Germaine Acogny, Gründerin der renommierten École des Sables, war 20 · 21 mit common ground[s] in Luxemburg zu sehen. In ihrem Solo Joséphine nähert sie sich Josephine Baker, Ikone der Goldenen Zwanziger, und hinterfragt die mit ihr verbundenen exotischen Mythen. Der südafrikanische Choreograf Gregory Maqoma, 2018 mit Via Katlehong in Luxemburg zu Gast, zeigt seine neue Produktion Bantu („Menschen“) – ein Stück für zwölf Tänzerinnen und Tänzer über Würde und Verbundenheit, in dem Bewegung zum Zeugnis eines gemeinsamen menschlichen Erbes wird.
EN This double bill brings together two major figures of African contemporary dance in a dialogue across generations. Germaine Acogny, founder of the École des Sables, returns to the Grand Théâtre following common ground[s] in 2021, performing Joséphine, a solo conceived as a critical encounter with Josephine Baker. Rather than a portrait, it probes the colonial gaze and the power of reinvention. Gregory Maqoma, last seen at the Grand Théâtre with Via Katlehong (2018), premieres Bantu, a new work grounded in ancestral memory, where movement becomes testimony and the body an archive of denied yet indestructible humanity, set to music by Yogin Sullaphen, project leader at the TalentLAB 2023. Together, the two pieces resist the spectacle of otherness, insisting instead on dignity, defiance, and interconnectedness, not to illustrate history, but to test how it moves through the present.
