«The world’s first female musician» What a fine tribute to this brilliant composer! Published in the periodical Mercure Galant .in 1691, it is fictitiously attributed by its author to Jean-Baptiste Lully, who supposedly penned these compliments from the Elysian Fields of the realm of the dead. But the French composer and harpsichordist also – and most importantly – garnered praise from the living, not least from Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan.
