Al Schmelz – Site of a former blast furnace

Where? L-7430 Fischbach

Ponds and relics of a former blast furnace from the 18th and 19th centuries in Fischbach.

Iron was produced at this idyllic location in the 18th and 19th centuries. The "Al Schmelz" is located in the municipality of Fischbach. A blast furnace plant was once located here. The ponds, which were used to generate energy and supply water to the plant, are still visible today. How the iron was produced can now be experienced digitally.

Today, the area forms a valuable biotope and exemplifies the interplay between industrial culture and nature in the UNESCO Global Geopark Mëllerdall. It is open to the public and part of the local natural and cultural heritage.
