MILES & COLTRANE 100

With Miles & Coltrane 100, pianist Emmet Cohen celebrates the 100th birthdays of two giants of jazz: John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Together with a top‑class quintet, he explores the fundamental questions that shaped the artistic work of these legends: Why are we here? What do we strive for? Where does the music lead us?

Carried by a spirit of endless exploration, Cohen continues the journey that the architects of jazz once began – a search for truth and depth through sound. As an advocate for a vibrant jazz culture, he sees jazz as a continuous dialogue that connects people across time and place. Audiences can look forward to a bold, newly interpreted experience of the music that profoundly shaped jazz history.

Emmet Cohen

The versatile American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is considered one of the leading artistic voices of his generation. DownBeat praised his “suave touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary,” through which he communicates with fellow musicians and audiences on a deeply human and individual level.

As the leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio, he is in high international demand and inspires young musicians around the world. Cohen has appeared at renowned festivals such as Newport, Monterey, and North Sea Jazz, and has performed in legendary venues including the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, Birdland, Ronnie Scott’s, and Rose Hall.

He is the Hammond B3 organist‑in‑residence at the SMOKE Jazz Club in Harlem, trained at the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Miami, and was a finalist in several prestigious competitions.
