Fatoumata Diawara
Echter'World Festival 2026
Fatoumata Diawara is pure energy! Her vibrant voice tells the story of Africa—its suffering and its rediscovered joys—sung in her native language, Bambara. She is an incredibly captivating artist who draws audiences in with her emotions. She makes people laugh and cry, and she gets them dancing through the night.
As a free woman, she uses art as her path—and it is magnificent! In her songs, she addresses important issues such as female genital mutilation and forced marriage, personal experiences that she transforms into a universal message of hope and resilience. At just 19 years old, Fatoumata Diawara left her home country of Mali to build a future for herself. Now 43, she continues to confront society’s injustices while celebrating her dual life as an artist and a mother.
