Day 1

Going down in the mine

The tour starts at the National Mining Museum in Rumelange. Explore the site in style on the mine train, before continuing on foot. You’re bound to be wowed by the technical details and the unique atmosphere. Admission is free with the LuxembourgPass.

The next stop on the tour is the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras, where miners used to work and live. During the summer, you can take a ride on the Train 1900 steam train and the Minièresbunn mining train as well as exploring the mining museum and the grounds. If you have time to spare, head into the little village of Lasauvage, where miners once lived in small houses with their families. You can visit this open-air museum for free.

Did you know that Minett Park, Lasauvage and Cockerill Mine can all be explored together as part of the ‘MinettTour’?

Local dishes or international cuisine

Time for lunch? Enjoy a hearty meal in the rural setting of Minett Park or savour international flavours at one of the many cafés and restaurants around the modern campus in Esch-Belval – the next stop on your tour.

Blast furnaces in a modern setting

Marvel at the blast furnaces once used to forge steel in the modern district of Esch-Belval. You can even explore one on a guided tour and admire the fantastic view while you’re there. Admission is free with the LuxembourgPass.
