Description
The Wiltz cycle route is called that for a good reason: it runs along the river of the same name from start to finish.
The green, deeply carved valleys that radiate a deep calm and relaxation are typical of the Ardennes. Detours to beautiful viewpoints such as Uewerschleed and Hockslee near Kautenbach are recommended. Culture lovers can reach the Bourscheid castle – which towers high above the Sauer valley – by train. The opposite viewpoint Grenglee offers the best view of it.
The town of Wiltz, also known as the “capital of the Ardennes,” impresses with its castle and its monumental stairway leading to the Wiltz gardens. Since the 1950s, the castle's stairway and façade have served annually as the setting for the renowned European open-air theater and music festival Festival de Wiltz.
After leaving Wiltz, continue riding away from road traffic along the Wiltz river through untouched forests and meadows.
The route ends at the Belgian border. Those with enough stamina can continue cycling to Bastogne, where there is a connection to the Belgian Ardennes cycling network.
