Schengen
The historic Luxembourg village where the European Union was born.
Located in the magic triangle where Luxembourg and the Benelux countries border Germany and France, Schengen caught the world's attention in June 1985 when it hosted the historic signing of the "Schengen Agreement", formalising the agreement between the original EU countries to abolish border controls between them.
Schengen attracts some 50,000 people every year, that even from China and Australia, and has become the poster child for a Europe without borders!
In addition to the many different museums, such as the European Museum, which commemorates the signing of the Treaty, the museum "A Possen", which deals with wine, folklore and toys, or the Valentiny Foundation, a must fir art lovers, the municipality with its green, hilly landscape, lakes, wine villages, nature reserves (Biodiversum, Haff Réimech) and gardens also invites you to take a trip in nature. The region offers an exceptional hiking landscape with magnificent views of the Moselle valley, hillside vineyards and exceptional flora and fauna. Not to mention the excellent cuisine and wine.
If you fancy a beach feeling, every spring and summer you can sunbathe or simply cool off at the extensive ponds and the large beach of the "Baggerweiers" in Remerschen.
