Bourscheid

Where? L-9140 Bourscheid

Majestic views, varied hiking trails and Luxembourg's largest castle – Bourscheid combines history, nature and regional lifestyle in a special way.

Bourscheid Castle – Luxembourg's largest castle

The imposing Bourscheid Castle is one of the most important fortifications between the Rhine and Meuse rivers and continues to shape the village to this day. High above the Sûre valley, on a slate rock that is difficult to access, it impresses with eleven towers, fortifications, curtain walls and two reconstructed buildings.

The castle is open all year round and is atmospherically illuminated in the evening – a sight that gives the historic walls a special presence. It is also the starting point or destination for many hikes in the surrounding area.

Hiking in the heart of Éislek

There are numerous trails around Bourscheid that combine nature, culture and impressive viewpoints.

Highlights include:

  • Éislek Pad Bourscheid leads to striking places such as the Napoléonsknäppchen and the Doigt de Dieu rock massif and opens up wide views across the plateau.
  • The BS4 hike from Bourscheid Moulin follows the loops of the Sûre, leads up to the castle and on to the Gringlee viewpoint, which offers one of the most beautiful views in Éislek.
  • The internationally acclaimed Escapardenne Lee Trail also runs through the municipality and connects Bourscheid with the surrounding hills and rocky landscapes.

Panoramic views around Bourscheid

Bourscheid's location between slate cliffs, ridges and river valleys creates a unique topography that offers spectacular views from several vantage points.

  • Gringlee: One of Luxembourg's most famous vantage points, with sweeping views over the Sûre Valley and the castle; accessible only on foot.
  • Napoléonsknäppchen: Historic spot with a platform and panoramic display at the highest point in the municipality; particularly suitable for stargazing.

Refreshments & accommodation

In Bourscheid-Moulin, directly on the Sûre, visitors will find several cafés, restaurants and hotels. Its location on the waterfront and proximity to hiking trails make it an ideal starting point for exploring the region.
