The Vauban itinerary is named after the famous military engineer Sébastien le Prestre de Vauban. In the 17th century, this battle-hardened fortress builder and strategist transformed the city of Luxembourg into one of the most powerful fortresses in Europe by expanding its defensive system and systematically securing potential points of attack. The route from the upper town to the picturesque Pfaffenthal and up to Kirchberg is characterised by beautiful viewpoints and brings the city's eventful past to life
