Vianden Music Days
The Blaze of Romanticism Farrenc & Schubert
Musical Experience by Candlelight
In the warm glow of countless candles, this concert presents two major works of Romantic chamber music: Louise Farrenc’s Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 30, and Franz Schubert’s famous “Trout Quintet.”
Farrenc’s work combines expressive depth, formal clarity and a lively dialogue between piano and strings. Schubert’s quintet offers a brighter, more lyrical contrast, with flowing melodies, transparent textures and its unusual scoring with double bass.
Together, these two masterpieces reveal the remarkable variety and expressive richness of the 19th-century piano quintet.
