Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra

For the 2027 New Year’s Concert, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra continues its exploration of Vienna as a crossroads of cultures. Under the musical direction of Luxembourgish conductor David Daubenfeld, the orchestra this time juxtaposes Nordic music with Viennese academicism. 

Far from the nerve center of Western music, Scandinavian composers developed a musical language nourished by folk sounds and a deep attachment to their national identity. Thus, Grieg, Svendsen, and Sibelius drew on local traditions to enrich a repertoire unique to Northern Europe. 

This dialogue between cultures reveals two parallel artistic evolutions: on one hand, a Vienna in the midst of a musical, literary, and artistic boom; on the other, Nordic works imbued with nature, lyricism, and folk-inspired colors.

Sparkling waltzes and festive polkas meet magnificent orchestral panoramas, transforming Vienna at times into a lavish imperial court and at others into an isolated village overlooking the Danube, resembling a majestic fjord carving its way deep into the earth.
