Art Nouveau and Luxembourg. New Momentum in the Art Scene

Where? 1, Marché-aux-Poissons -, L-2345 Luxembourg Training/Conferences

Guided tour with Ulrike Degen, curator at the MNAHA

Guided tour

A closer look at the applied arts objects created in Luxembourg around 1900 reveals that the art scene was receptive to Art Nouveau and strived, at least in part, to develop its own national artistic style. However, the art scene oscillated between a sense of tradition — intended to anchor the Grand Duchy and its artistic output in historical continuity — and the adoption of new forms of expression such as Art Nouveau, with the aim of reflecting the spirit of the age and a modern society. Curator Ulrike Degen puts into words what the exhibited objects have to tell.
