Maison Viticole Schmit-Fohl

For seven generations, the Schmit-Fohl estate has been based in the heart of the village of Ahn, one of the most picturesque villages in the Luxembourg Moselle region.

In 2021, Nicolas and Mathieu took over the 14.5-hectare estate to carry on the long-standing family tradition, with the aim of bringing their own vision and personality to what previous generations had built up.

As soon as they arrived, the two brothers began cultivating the vineyard organically, with a view to protecting their environmental and viticultural heritage. Since the 2020 vintage, the entire production has been certified organic or in the process of conversion to organic farming.

This transition to organic farming might have been risky had it not been in keeping with the estate’s tradition, which has always placed particular emphasis on the care of the vines (organic fertilisers, leaf removal, etc.), prioritising limited yields and relying exclusively on hand-harvesting.

The wines are vinified in accordance with the regulations governing organic farming, and interventions are kept to an absolute minimum.

This approach enables the production of authentic wines with great ageing potential, which clearly express the characteristic traits of the grape variety and the personality of their terroir.
