Description
This sporty tour runs along the banks of three rivers, the Alzette, the White Ernz and the Sûre, mostly following old railway routes. The open land with its outstanding panoramas offers beautiful views down into the valleys. The route becomes more challenging at points, due to two extended inclines between Cruchten and Schrondweiler and at Medernach. There is much to explore along the way, with two exciting museums, the General Patton Memorial Museum and the National Museum of Military History. Above Nommern, take a short detour to the largest mushroom in Luxembourg: the “Champignon”! The special shape of this rock formation gives an insight into the unique geology of the region.

The tour starts in Ettelbruck at the train station and then leads to Cruchten on the PC15 national cycle path via Schieren. From Cruchten, cycle uphill to Schrondweiler on the road closed to traffic, traverse the plateau and then cycle downhill to Medernach in the White Ernz valley and uphill again on the other side of the village. From there, the route heads left past numerous farms and down through the towns of Eppeldorf and Bigelbach to the next valley: the Sûre valley. Here, the tour follows a national cycle path, the PC3, and then from Reisdorf the PC16. Return to Ettelbruck via Moestroff and Diekirch. This circular tour is best cycled counter-clockwise, but the other direction is also possible as the route is marked in both directions.
