Description
The Charly Gaul cycle path starts in Ellange-gare on the PC7 and continues to the Centre circuit in Hesperange (PC1).
The PC14 cycle track is dedicated to Charly Gaul, a versatile Luxembourgish cyclist, who was the winner of the Tour de France in 1958, as well as the Luxembourg cyclo-cross champion. His abilities as a pure climber when the road rises earned him the nicknames of the "Winged Climber" or the "Angel of the Mountains". He is known as one of the greatest climbers of the century. He also won the Giro d'Italia in 1956 and 1959. He was particularly fond of bad weather conditions, in which he managed to create huge gaps and upset the rankings.
Directions
The route of this cycle path is currently being studied. The section between Hassel and Ellange-gare (PC7) is practicable, but not signposted. When leaving Hassel on the CR162 in the direction of Dalheim, you must turn right onto the byroad. In Filsdorf, the track crosses the N13, "route des trois cantons", and follows the "Kiirchestrooss" until it intersects with the CR162 "Munnerëferstrooss", where you have to turn right and continue for about 100 metres before turning left into the "Leichewee" (CR155).After a short climb, the track reaches Dalheim, with its famous Dalheim Eagle and Roman archaeological site. The track then follows the N13 eastwards towards Bous and Remich until the crossroads with the CR148 "Hossegaass", where you have to turn right onto a country road. The track heads in the direction of Welfrange, which can be seen on the left as you descend to the CR148. The track continues in a straight line on the CR148 and takes the byroad straight ahead at the first right-hand bend in the CR148.After a short climb, a panoramic view opens up over Ellange, Ellange-gare and Elvange to the east and Mondorf-les-Bains to the south. The winding descent stops at the entrance of Ellange "rue Killen". In Ellange, the track climbs up the other side of the CR149 "rue du Curé" and ends on a non-asphalted part on the PC7 of "Jangeli" near Ellange-gare.
