A breath of fresh air, traditional values
Luxembourg is the only Grand Duchy in the world. The Grand Duke is a symbol of the country’s traditions and values. Grand Duke Henri has held the office for a quarter of a century. On 3 October, the 70-year-old will hand over the baton to his eldest son Guillaume, who has served as Lieutenant-Representative for the past few months. A breath of fresh air meets tradition. The highlight of the ceremony promises to be the new Grand Ducal couple, Guillaume and Stéphanie’s, tour of the country on the day.
Deeply rooted in the country
Beginning their reign with such a tour shows just how closely the family is connected to the country and how deep its roots run. They are associated with customs, festivals, culture, sport and, of course, the landscapes and activities found here. Hiking in the regions, revelling in the past while visiting castles and palaces, enjoying regional and local specialities – all this is also part of life for the Grand Ducal family. At the same time, Grand Duke Henri, his wife Maria Teresa and their five children – Guillaume, Félix, Louis, Alexandra and Sébastien – together with their families, are themselves ambassadors through their enthusiasm for the country and its people.
You can also follow in the footsteps of the Grand Ducal family at many specific locations across the country, whether around the Grand Ducal Palace in the city centre, at the family’s imposing main residence, Berg Castle in Colmar-Berg, or at Fischbach Castle, the former residence of Grand Duchess Charlotte.
