With the CeCiL's Box, the Cercle Cité supports local creation by presenting and promoting the work of emerging and young artists from the Greater Region in one of its shop windows in the Rue du Curé. This mini exhibition space, visible 7 days a week, day and night, offers a street-side location in the heart of the city to a series of original and ephemeral interventions from the plastic and applied arts, with the aim of arousing the curiosity of passers-by and questioning the collective imagination.
The 39th intervention, entrusted to artist Samuel Levy, is entitled Otherside, the gate..
Samuel levy has been drawing since he was five years old. More than anything else, drawing is a way of using strokes, a thread to construct the world, transcribe ideas, images.
He has never stopped. He has always apprehended the exterior with caution and respect. When still a boy, trees symbolised the great giants equipped with tentacles that protected his home, clouds were like walls that concealed the windows of his room, each element came to life, recreating a world where everything became more alive, more magical.
In fact, nothing changed as he grew older. He continues to create a universe that is built on how we relate to the world around us.
He attempts to weave a thread, a link between the living world and the context in which he evolves.
Each painting or installation is constructed as a living organism that evolves in a linear architecture, and conversely. Shapes intertwine and recreate other forms which, in turn, become autonomous, like a life cycle.
For the Otherside, the gate project, the CeCil’s Box showcase becomes a sort of passage, an open door to an imaginary world, but one that is still linked to the living world. It symbolizes the worlds that live in us, the mental projections that we sometimes create in order to better apprehend the outside…
