TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: Full combustion!

Where? 1, rue John Ernest Dolibois, L-4573 Differdange Other, Art, Culture & Literature

The evolution of the engine through time

Discover our 1st temporary exhibition in collaboration with the “Fondation Lenoir”: Full combustion: “The evolution of the engine through time”..

.

Dive into the heart of human ingenuity and discover the very first combustion engine in the history of mankind, “the Lenoir engine”, as well as the different types of engines: 2-stroke, 4-stroke, diesel and many others.

The Luxembourg-born Étienne Lenoir, inventor of the Lenoir engine, triggered the automotive revolution, being the inspiration for the Otto engine, commonly used in today's cars. As part of the exhibition, you'll also find the very first car registered in Luxembourg, as well as a model of the “Daimler Reitwagen”.

Take a look at the history of the various engines and the great automotive personalities such as Étienne Lenoir, Nicolaus Otto, Carl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler and Rudolph Diesel, who revolutionized the way we travel every day.

It all began with the crazy idea of using the energy of a controlled explosion to generate movement.

Whether you're an expert or simply fascinated by combustion engines, come and visit the LSC and its temporary exhibition, open to the public from June 20 to October 12, 2025.

Please note that access to the temporary exhibition is included in the Luxembourg Science Center admission ticket, as is access to our large exploration room (with over 100 interactive stations) and science shows (from age 6).
