The ocean is both the origin and the destination of all life on Earth, yet this vast cradle of life is now under threat. SEAGNAL follows the ocean’s final warning signals and takes us through uncomfortable truths we have ignored for too long: ghost fishing, overfishing, rising sea levels and the loss of coastal ecosystems. As our oceans suffer from human greed and neglect, seven individuals answer the ocean’s call. SEAGNAL does more than ask us to listen. It invites us to rethink our relationship with the sea.

Co-produced with Greenpeace East Asia, SEAGNAL captures the warning signs of the ocean crisis through the voices of people on the front lines of marine conservation: the Haenyeo women divers of Jeju Island in South Korea, Indigenous coastal communities in Indonesia, defenders of marine sanctuaries in Mexico, freedivers in Australia, a Greenpeace expedition in the Seychelles and scientists studying underwater noise pollution in Barcelona. Far from being passive victims, they are active guardians working to protect the oceans.

The documentary offers a bold response to the global environmental emergency and explores new ways of telling stories through film. Following the 2023 United Nations resolution calling for the expansion of Marine Protected Areas, the international community has rallied around the 30x30 goal: protecting 30% of the world's oceans by 2030. SEAGNAL provides a powerful cultural and emotional contribution to this global movement.
