Ibiyewa
Vendredi Magnifique
The Brussels-based trio IBIYEWA presents its debut album Vendredi Magnifique at neimënster.
Initiated by Beninese drummer Angelo Moustapha, a protégé of Philip Catherine, IBIYEWA brings together strong musical personalities from the Belgian capital: guitarist Joel Rabesolo, a leading figure of the new generation in Madagascar, and the ever-creative Toine Thys, a Belgian saxophonist involved in numerous projects.
Their first album, Vendredi Magnifique, is a celebration of joy, freedom, and nightlife. It’s a vibrant collection of tracks composed by all three members, blending acoustic textures and bold electronic sounds, all driven by an unshakable groove.
Wherever they perform; from Brussels to Ouagadougou, Conakry to Antananarivo, Luanda to Paris; they leave behind a trail of smiles and dancing audiences.
The name IBIYEWA, meaning « This place looks like us » in Yoruba, reflects their desire to transcend cultural boundaries and create music that brings people together. Their sound is an eclectic mix of African rhythms, grooves, electronic elements, captivating melodies, and daring improvisations.
