Where? 28, rue Münster, L-2160 Luxembourg Art, Culture & Literature

Sorry, I'm talking

Pardon, je parle is an exhibition devoted to the main female authors of contemporary autobiographical comics in Spanish. It is based on the famous feminist slogan: ‘the personal is political’ (Hanisch, 1969), which asserts that the problems considered to be ‘personal’ suffered by women (sexism, domestic violence, responsibility for bringing up children or running the home, lower wages and other gender-related issues) are systemic and political problems that can only be remedied by a collective effort. The themes and styles of the works presented are varied, as are the career paths of the women authors. All, however, share the same intention: to talk about their lives.

In selecting the works, we have tried to cover themes that give a realistic view of the prevailing political issues with a view to positive social change and are told by the authors through their own life experiences. These themes include: testimonies from the LGBTQI community, class conflict, xenophobia, misogynist violence, mental health, immigration, working conditions, family and historical trauma, emotional space, the couple, the family, friendship and the creative process. The exhibition is a modest presentation limited to 35 female authors working in Spanish. It has not been possible to include all the artists we would have liked to. Autobiographical comics bring together many female authors from different backgrounds, themes and styles, and we invite the public to read and learn more about the subject.

.

Pardon, je parle is a collection of personal experiences from which universal conclusions can be drawn. Through these joyful, sad, funny or traumatic stories, we encounter identities that don’t want to be invisible or silent.
