Luxembourg protects its most valuable natural areas through designated nature reserves.
Nature reserves are home to some of the most outstanding examples of a region's biodiversity, including endangered animal and plant species and rare habitats. These legally defined zones have clearly regulated use and management requirements.
The “Schwaarzenhaff” nature reserve is part of the Natura 2000 zone “Valley of the Mamer and the Eisch”; its area of 6,797.60 ha makes it the largest protection zone of European interest in Luxembourg.
