In their work ‘ENFANCE’, the Zig Zag Création company invites the audience on an unforgettable journey into the world of childhood. In a wordless symbiosis between dance and acrobatics, four circus artists, actors and dancers unfold a magical story full of emotions, brought to life by a masterful combination. Inspired by a selection of expressive drawings by the famous illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé (1932-2022), Companie Zig Zag develops a series of moving physical stories.
One of the most famous French illustrators, Sempé began illustrating at the age of 12 and published his first works in 1950, appearing in ‘Paris Match’, ‘L'Express’ and ‘Le Nouvel Observateur’. Sempé became internationally recognised through his work in the ‘Petit Nicolas’ series, which is known in over 30 countries. The theme of childhood crops up again and again in his works - with warmth, irony and an unmistakable lightness.
It is precisely this simplicity that director Philippe Cauveau picks up on, allowing the physical narratives to merge with the lively background to create an impressive stage set. With a mixture of energy, dynamism and a pinch of childlike playfulness, the four artists venture a look back into the childish world of discoveries and friends in their performance. They twirl, dance, jump and laugh, creating a unique universe that reflects the joy, wonder and freedom of childhood.
This extraordinary production promises an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages and will certainly be remembered for a long time to come.
