Ardennes Draft Horse Day

Sunday, September 21, 2025 – The Robbesscheier site in Munshausen will host the 34th edition of the Dag vum Ardennerpäerd, the day dedicated to the Luxembourg Ardennes draft horse.

.

Organized in collaboration with the Lëtzebuerger Ardenner Studbook, the Nature and Forest Administration, Naturpark Our, and the Nature and Forest Center of Burfelt, this friendly family event will highlight the richness of our rural heritage through horse-drawn demonstrations, a local craft market rooted in the region, and a wide range of activities for all ages to discover the animal that symbolizes the estate.

At the heart of the day, visitors will enjoy the draft horse derby, featuring unique carriage driving skill challenges and precision timber hauling competitions. Surrounding this spirited contest, the atmosphere will be festive: a draft horse market, stands displaying agricultural equipment, and the presence of local artisans and producers showcasing regional trades and know-how.

Families will be in the spotlight as well, with plenty of children's activities: donkey rides, carriage tours, educational workshops, face painting, Déierenolympiad challenges, and inflatable play areas. Partner organizations such as the Burfelt branch of the Nature and Forest Administration and Naturpark Our will offer environmental discovery workshops. For one day, the nature center will become a vast playground of exploration, blending nature, tradition, and shared joy.

Music will accompany the day in a cheerful and festive atmosphere, supported by the dedication of local associations—from choirs to youth groups—who will run the food and drink stalls.

Beyond the festive aspect, the Dag vum Ardennerpäerd is part of a committed initiative to promote and preserve the draft horse. Once essential to rural life, this robust and gentle animal is finding new relevance today in more sustainable agricultural, forestry, and tourism practices. Keeping the tradition of working horses alive means preserving precious know-how that respects the environment and upholds a unique rural heritage that blends usefulness, tradition, and modernity.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION:.

Entry to the event is €7 per adult, free for children under 3 years old. All activities and educational workshops on-site are included at no extra cost. Shuttle buses will be available from the P&R locations in Drauffelt and Marnach to make your visit easier.
