Urban history

Off-site event.

Following the opening of the Luxembourg fortress in 1867, the government decided to prioritise the urbanisation of the former plain front. After agreeing on the road network to be built, it sold several plots of land for villa construction. In 1871, when landscape architect Édouard André created the park, these plots had already been sold for residential construction. During our walk, we will see who built these villas, who lived there, and how these remarkable residences were integrated into the public promenades.Departure:. headquarters of the Red Cross (44, bd Joseph II)
