Rural settlement in a gentle, undulating landscape, made fertile by many springs and surrounded by trees whose fruit is used to distil fine spirits. In a picturesque site near Aechelbour is a prehistoric mushroom-shaped rock (known as "le Champignon"). The most recent archaeological excavations date from August 2002.

In Celtic, Nommern means the settlement near the water. The many forests crossed by rocky ridges (Nommerlayen) with a chapel nearby (Lourdes Chapel 1788) and old crosses attract walkers. Two viewpoints, the "Kneibrecher" and the site near the "Champignon" offer visitors to admire the wide valley. The "Europa-Camping Nommerlayen" campsite offers an open-air swimming pool and a "Wellnesscenter". Cruchten is located in the Alzette valley. Listed houses, beautiful isolated farms, the plague chapel dating from 1661 and the old crosses are evidence of a long-established culture. A cycle track runs alongside the Alzette. Green tourism attracts families with children.
