Play is said to be children’s first work, and what's more, it is essential for their development and wellbeing. In Luxembourg, we love happy and fulfilled kids, which is why you’ll find plenty of playgrounds in every corner of the country!
In the capital, one of the most popular ones is the "pirate ship" in the City Park. The huge wooden vessel can be found amid swings, slides, sandpits and water games. There are, however, many other thematic playgrounds to explore for young people in the City of Luxembourg, such as the "Airport" one in the Cents district, the "Farm" in Gasperich, the "Fortress" in Belair and the "Universe of the planets" in Kaltreis Park.
For those looking for a wide choice of games for all ages, Merl Park, which has a duck pond too, is the ideal place. There is also a trampoline park there during the summer. And of course let’s not forget the beautiful playground in the Bambësch forest, the one near the lake in Kockelscheuer (where adults can work out in the outdoor fitness park right across the street) or the one in the Neuman Park in Limpertsberg.
However, the capital city does not have the monopoly on playgrounds! Hundreds of specially conceived play areas await children throughout the Grand Duchy, promising hours of happiness. For example, the Gaalgebierg Park in Esch-sur-Alzette, which offers a vast playground, a climbing wall and, in winter, a natural ice rink. If water games are the thing, you should head to the playground in Laval Park, also in Esch-sur-Alzette. As for the municipal park in Mersch, it has several playgrounds, plus a big pond with a rich wildlife, while Echternach will be a hit with its large play area near the lake and the trampoline park next to the youth hostel (in season). Finally, for a slightly different experience, you can take the kids to the Mining Museum’s playground in Rumelange.
