Formed in 2003 by husband-and-wife duo Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas in Montreal, The Besnard Lakes has been on a 20-plus year journey of music-making and touring, widespread critical acclaim along the way for their meticulous long-form psychedelic musical experiences. Meeting Kevin Laing in 2004 at a recording session, he would agree to become the band’s long-time drummer and anchor. Sheenah Ko (keys, vocals and vibes) and Gabriel Lambert (guitars) round out the powerhouse that makes this band a thing to behold in a live setting.
The psych-rock band released their seventh album in October 2025. The Besnard Lakes are the Ghost Nation features the band’s recognisable sound world – the keening, lilting vocals of Lasek and Goreas foregrounded – but there is a lightness and optimism at play. Perhaps a somewhat disingenuous sense of hope, in a world where it is currently often in short supply.
