EN Grand Théâtre audiences have already experienced the unsettling universe of Belgian-based dance theatre group Peeping Tom, in productions such as the Vader / Moeder / Kind trilogy and their spectacular take on the opera Dido and Æneas in 2022. Now the acclaimed company returns with a new piece, S 62° 58', W 60° 39'. Those coordinates mark the spot in Antarctica where a ship has run aground and is stuck in ice, trapping its passengers. Presented in the usual Peeping Tom style – more film set than stage design and constructed in striking visual detail –, the company of dancers play out the psychodrama of their situation. A “play within a play” element is revealed when the audience discovers director and cast rehearsing the piece. Nobody knows who is manipulating whom and we are reminded that even art that aims for something “real” is ultimately artifice.

Cette année, elle revient avec une nouvelle création qui catapulte le public dans un voyage aux proportions apocalyptiques. Dans S 62° 58', W 60° 39', un navire s’est échoué dans des montagnes de glace. Une petite communauté se retrouve piégée dans ce paysage dangereux et aride. Soudain, la pièce devient une performance dans la performance et nous entrons dans la réalité des artistes et du metteur en scène. Est-ce le personnage ou l’interprète qui joue sur scène ? Peeping Tom, connu pour ses spectacles esthétiquement travaillés, présente une performance cinématographique visuellement impressionnante qui explore les relations humaines
et les manipulations quotidiennes.
DE Ein Schiff ist nahe der Antarktis im Eis stecken geblieben. Eine kleine Gemeinschaft ist in der kargen Landschaft gefangen, wartet darauf, dass das Eis schmilzt, und überlebt, indem sie dem Lauf der Natur folgt. Doch plötzlich wird eine andere Wirklichkeit sichtbar: die der DarstellerInnen und des Regisseurs. Wir sehen ein Stück im Stück, und die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Fiktion verschwimmen. Wird das Publikum vom Regisseur manipuliert, der Regisseur von den DarstellerInnen oder umgekehrt? Mit S 62° 58', W 60° 39' präsentieren Peeping Tom, die bereits öfter an den Théâtres de la Ville zu Gast waren, visuell beeindruckendes Tanztheater, eine filmische Performance, die menschliche Beziehungen und alltägliche Manipulationen untersucht, aber auch nach Hingabe und Illusion in der Kunst fragt.
