Mendelssohn called it a «heathenish delight». He wasn’t wrong. This concert dives into two very different worlds. First, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s music flits between fairyland and comedy, complete with the iconic Wedding March.. Then, Die erste Walpurgisnacht. (The First Walpurgis Night), a tale of witches and druids challenging their oppressors, with music full of fire and defiance. Shakespeare meets Goethe, magic meets rebellion, all under the baton of Sir John Eliot Gardiner. A night of enchantment with a devilish twist!
