With the CeCiL's Box, the Cercle Cité supports local creation by presenting and promoting the work of emerging and young artists from the Greater Region in one of its shop windows in the Rue du Curé. This mini exhibition space, visible 7 days a week, day and night, offers a street-side location in the heart of the city to a series of original and ephemeral interventions from the plastic and applied arts, with the aim of arousing the curiosity of passers-by and questioning the collective imagination.

The 37th intervention, entrusted to artist Suzan Noesen, is entitled Deep Veil.



Deep Veil is a spatial and temporal exploration of image, that stretches the cinematic experience beyond the frame – into fabric, light, and atmosphere. Emerging from a hand-processed 16mm film, the installation carries with it the physical traces of its making: chemical artefacts, remnants of remjet, material irregularities. These marks, typically concealed in film projection, here become central – lending the work a painterly, almost organic quality. Fabric surfaces that echo the texture and fragility of celluloid, are suspended in space, forming a shifting image plane that unfolds in a suspended temporality, in response to light.

The interplay of lighting – natural, ambient, artificial – reveals and conceals layers, leaving that what is visible is always contingent, always partial. During the day, outer layers surface, aligned with the exteriority of everyday life; at night, backlighting lets deeper layers emerge – ephemeral, inward, almost dreamlike – like short private moments between waking and sleeping.

In transcending the sequentiality of film, the work proposes a durational image space—one that resists closure and instead invites the viewer into a suspended, atmospheric perception across the rhythms of day and night.

Through this material and spatial reconfiguration, Deep Veil invites a heightened receptivity to layered realities. It opens a space for the image to become porous, for perception to deepen, and for the self to momentarily slip between surfaces, into a more intimate, less graspable mode of presence.

It is a search for depth: of perception, of experience, and of image – held delicately in tension with the exteriorities of the visible world.
