Luxembourg ceramists invite the public to discover their world.
Every year, the "Open Pottery Day" takes place throughout Germany on the second weekend of March. The event was first organised in 2006 in several German federal states. By 2025, almost all federal states were participating, and for the first time ceramic artists from Luxembourg were represented as well.
In 2026 for the second time Luxembourgish potters look forward to open their doors under the moto “LOOK, TOUCH, BE AMAZED.”
Five Luxembourgish studios joining over 500 German potteries are welcoming numerous interested visitors who will embark on a journey of discovery through the diverse and wonderful world of ceramics.
You are warmly invited to experience the quality and beauty of handcrafted ceramic products, to be inspired, and to discover an ancient yet ever-popular craft. The program includes classics such as guided tours of the studios or demonstrations on the potter's wheel and/or other shaping techniques. Firing ceramics, such as the fascinating Raku firing, and hands-on activities are also offered in some locations. The focus is on encounters, conversations, and pleasant hours spent together. Of course, the handcrafted products will also be available for purchase.
The fourth edition of the special event “Dressed Up”- so wonderful, so diverse !
Many participants are creating are creating a bowl especially for this weekend - a limited edition and unique collector’s piece.
Whether everyday tableware, artistically thrown or hand-built vessels for the home and garden, exclusive jewelry or experimentally modelled sculptures — handmade ceramics are very much in vogue. Their versatility, quality and sustainability inspire and enrich everyday life.
For an increasing number of people, this event is one they don’t want to miss. And so, the “Open Pottery Day” has become a fixed date in their calendar at the beginning of the 2026 ceramics year.
Anyone who would like to go on a "ceramics tour" in Luxembourg or Germany on March 14th and 15th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., can find more information at: www.tag-der-offenentoepferei.de.
The website provides detailed information about the locations of the participants and their offerings. An interactive map allows visitors to plan their own personal “ceramics route” and explore multiple workshops in different regions.
