Paulo Gonzo is undoubtedly a master of his craft: he makes music that inspires his fans and embodies Portuguese culture. He has been a fixture of Portuguese pop music for four decades. His shows are characterized by high artistic quality, full of timeless hits with stories you can relate to - an authentic soundtrack of life, sung with the unique voice of Paulo Gonzo.
.
The co-founder, composer and singer of the Go Graal Blues Band Paulo Gonzo decided to launch his solo career in 1984. His first single, “So do I” (CBS), was a great success. In 1986, he released his debut album “My Desire” with original songs by Charlie Midnight, Dan Hartman, Daniel Lavoie and Jimmy Scott as well as a phenomenal interpretation of “These Arms of Mine” (CBS) by the great Ottis Redding.
His first albums in Portuguese were released in the early 90s: “Pedras da Calçada” and “Fora d' Horas” (both Sony Music). The song “Jardins Proibidos” is one of the greatest successes in Portuguese music, and other titles such as ‘Acordar’, “Tiro à Queima Roupa”, “Leve Beijo Triste” and “Noite das Sete Colinas” became milestones in Portuguese music. His compilation album “Quase Tudo”, released in 1997, was awarded 6-times platinum and is one of the best-selling albums in Portugal with over 240,000 copies sold.
In the following years, Gonzo celebrated great success with further albums and established himself as a great national voice. In 2012, Paulo Gonzo celebrated his 35th anniversary on stage with two sold-out concerts at the Coliseu do Porto and the Coliseu de Lisboa, where he was accompanied by several special guests such as Jorge Palma, Rui Reininho, Lúcia Moniz, Zé Pedro and Tito Paris.
Paulo Gonzo's talent and success as a singer, composer and performer make this musician one of the most important Portuguese artists of the moment (with more than 400,000 albums sold) and one of our great voices.
