EN Leading classical and contemporary ballet company Birmingham Royal Ballet is making its first-ever visit to the Théâtres de la Ville as part of a Ballet triple bill at the end of the season. The company which traces its origins back nearly 100 years, opened a new chapter in its history when Carlos Acosta, one of the greatest male dancers of his generation, became artistic director in 2020. The Havana-born dancer and choreographer is working to expand the company’s repertoire, taking it in new directions while also maintaining its traditional core repertory. We Are Malala is a new full-evening ballet, created by five female choreographers from around the world, alongside award-winning British com-poser Kate Whitley, and Italian lighting designer Fabiana Piccioli, winner of two ”Knight of Illumination“ awards for dance. Together, they respond to the themes of universal education and women’s rights, inspired by the life of Malala Yousafzai, the girls’ education activist and the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Ensemble, ces artistes s’inspirent de la vie de Malala Yousafzai, une jeune militante pakistanaise des droits des femmes qui a obtenu en 2014 le prix Nobel de la paix à l’âge de seulement 17 ans, pour aborder des thèmes universels par le biais de la danse. Dirigé par Carlos Acosta depuis 2020, le Birmingham Royal Ballet est un acteur incontournable du ballet classique et contemporain, dont le travail suit, depuis l’arrivée de son nouveau directeur artistique, des directions électrisantes, tout en s’appuyant sur la créativité et l’excellence technique de ses danseurs et danseuses.

Seit 2020 wird es vom kubanischen Tänzer und Choreografen Carlos Acosta geleitet, der 2023 mit dem Prix de Lausanne für sein Lebenswerk ausgezeichnet wurde. Bei seinem ersten Auftritt in Luxemburg präsentiert die Kompanie We are Malala, ein neues abendfüllendes Programm, das von fünf Choreografinnen aus der ganzen Welt in Zusammenarbeit mit der britischen Komponistin Kate Whitley geschaffen wird. Inspiriert vom Leben der pakistanischen Aktivistin und Nobelpreisträgerin Malala Yousafzai greift der Abend globale Themen auf, die von Bildung bis zu Frauenrechten reichen, und bietet den TänzerInnen die Gelegenheit, ihr ganzes Können unter Beweis zu stellen.
