Working Class Heroes

Based on the biographical itineraries of workers and/or trade unionists who ended up in the upper echelons of national politics in Luxembourg, but also in other European countries, the relations between the world of work and the institutional framework of national policies will be dealt with from different angles. Based on a scientific curriculum, an artistic and pedagogical staging will be set up by the curator Marie-Paule Jungblut. The intention is not to limit the exhibition to the museum enclosure, but to occupy different locations in the municipality of Kayl. As the MUAR is to become a national cultural institution within the framework of the future CNCI network, the sustainability of this first major project is assured. The local character and the involvement of the population will be ensured through the biographies of 'local heroes' of the mining era. The three Luxembourgish portraits serve above all to raise awareness of a theme that goes beyond the boundaries of the municipality and also to interest an exogenous public with exciting portraits so that they will venture into the Kayl Valley, an unlikely place for an exhibition dedicated to a global theme. It is also true that the project plans to extend the biographical framework of the project to biographical journeys of trade unionists and workers who have entered national or European politics.
