In 2008, artist Wolfgang Müller reconstructed the songs of eleven extinct bird species for his award-winning BR2 radio play Séance Vocibus Avium. For this, he engaged Claudia Urbschat-Mingues, one of the best-known German dubbing voices, as narrator. Four years later, he developed a play inspired by another extinct bird, the North American migratory pigeon, into a hitherto nameless genre, the sign play. A manuscript by the artist served as the basis, which the actress Simone Lönne translated into GSL (German sign language) and performed in Andreas Costrau's Sign Service Studio. In the video, one can only hear the rustling as the individual sheets of the score are turned and some slight background noises.
(Those who do not understand DGS could download a pdf with the German text, try to read it along or learn first DGS words and phrases).
As part of his stay at the Bridderhaus, there will be a premiere: Claudia Urbschat-Mingues will read the manuscript for Séance 2 aloud in parallel to the running video on the 2nd of July 2023 at 4pm.
This presentation will be followed by a moment of exchange between the artist Wolfgang Müller and Claudia Urbschat-Mingues in German, while being translated into German sign language.
