VENUE: DIALOGUE , 35, Grand-Rue L-9530 Wiltz

Kevin Barois and Sam Krack met through their work installing exhibitions at Casino Luxembourg. Here, artistic practices – whatever their form – intersect with manual and artisanal labor, collectively carried out away from public view. Although the two artists later shared everyday experiences and worked side by side in a common studio in Sète, France, the opportunity to collaborate on a joint project never truly arose.

Their intention for the residency at DIALOGUE Wiltz was to arrive and set up an exhibition as they have so often done together, but this time without plans, without any accompanying artists who might arrive along the way. Everything remains to be invented. Artistic practice understood as work, at the crossroads of craft and agriculture. Construction materials meet conceptual thinking. The pooling of skills and exchange as a point of departure, and the desire to produce something in common. To make, but differently.

Sam Krack

Sam Krack’s gaze seeps into the insignificant details of everyday life: unassuming photographs from insurance reports or classified ads for second-hand objects; domestic spaces where our trivial possessions accumulate, bearing witness to consumer society.

Against the immediacy of the constant flow of images (and commodities) characteristic of this hyper-connected world, he uses slow artistic-making processes – oil painting, printmaking, sculpture in earthenware or marble – and their power of sacralization, capable of transfiguring banality into desirable objects.

.

The hyperrealistic reproduction of the world and mise en abyme go hand in hand with a form of tautology that openly dialogues with conceptual art, yet is tinged with an irony foreign to the artists of that movement.

This humor also expresses a form of tenderness that the artist nurtures toward these ordinary and at once absurd events, which he submits to his audience in order to question their relationship to the world and, ultimately, to claim a renewed attention to reality and its representation.

Kevin Barois  .

Kevin Barois’s artistic practice is closely tied to a daily working context. Currently, he is engaged, together with his collective, in work focused on construction and scenography, where carpentry and painting primarily intersect.

It is within these various environments that he finds a form of beauty in the useful and the ordinary. He pays particular attention to simple forms, materiality, and the function and structure of objects. Using the greatest possible economy of means, he seeks to restore presence to everyday objects.

Kevin Barois is also interested in the intimate relationship that can develop between the person or people who make, the site, and the construction itself.

DIALOGUE

DIALOGUE is an artist residency program in Wiltz that provides creatives from a wide range of disciplines with the space to deeply engage with their artistic process.

At the heart of the concept lies the temporary repurposing of vacant buildings in Wiltz, offering artists a flexible and inspiring framework for their creative development. A distinctive feature of the project is the inclusion workshops provided by COOPERATIONS, which offer support and guidance for project implementation.

As a location-flexible residency, DIALOGUE fosters exchange between artists and the city of Wiltz, positioning it as the cultural hub of the program. The residency bridges national and international perspectives, connecting artistic visions with local stories and contexts.

DIALOGUE is envisioned as a dynamic platform that promotes cultural exchange and serves as a vibrant meeting place where art, community, and space engage in an ongoing dialogue.
